bio

Mattia Cicoli was born in Rome, 1990 and moved to Melbourne in 1997. Coming from Italy and growing up in a creative family
he has always appreciated the Italian culture and fine arts.
At seventeen he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which propelled him to pursue his dreams of becoming an artist.

His paintings are reminiscent of past masters; Philip Guston
and Pablo Picasso. Showing deep emotional expression through abstracted figures and disparate examinations of muscles and
the human body, his work is rhythmically evocative but also beautifully fragile.

He has showcased his work in many solo and collaborative exhibitions across a number of Melbourne galleries,
won multiple awards and participated in interviews
for television and radio programs.
